“If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?”
-George Carlin
The person who can weather the storm, and press forward, is the biggest badass.
Did you have a long day?
I did.
Pretty much, the only thing I want to do at 7:15 in the evening — after being up since 4:30 this morning — is call it a day.
Just being honest.
However, I want to this blog to be consistent. I made a commitment to myself that I would continue to post — whether anyone reads it or not — in my effort to not only chronicle this particularly difficult segment of my journey, but also to “put it out there,” in the hopes that it may assist others who will traverse this path after me.
That’s pretty much it, in a nutshell.
So I sit here, at 7:22 in the evening, and I write.
And…here’s what I’ve come up with:
Three years ago, I had an awesome trainer, in a small North Dakota, oil-field-based town, who used to drone on and on about cryptocurrency, particularly Bitcoin, and his absolute belief that his investments would pay off in spades in the long run.
I’d be lifting, pushing or pulling weight, and he’d be chatting away about Bitcoin, and how much it had gone up, and how it was going to be the currency of the future.
Knowing absolutely NADA about cryptocurrency, I remember cautioning him to not “put all of his eggs in one basket,” and tried to convince him that since I knew nothing about cryptocurrency, then OBVIOUSLY, most others didn’t know much either.
It was a fad.
A phase.
It wouldn’t last.
I remember saying all of that to him, while I pushed the weight on the sled up, wondering if he was really counting my reps.
That trainer of mine was unswayed by my negative remarks.
Bitcoin hit $50,000 today, and I remember him saying that he’d bought several coins at around the $6,000 mark.
I guess the joke’s on me, isn’t it?
My trainer was focused, committed and driven. He was a competitive body builder and actually interviewed clients before accepting them as actual clients.
The man practiced what he preached.
This guy was a force to be reckoned with, when it came to being positive, and he used to send out little “pep texts” to his clients, to help keep them motivated.
Yes, it kept his business busy, but after having actually worked out with this young guy for about a year, I knew he legitimately believed what he wrote in those texts.
In honor of his Bitcoin investment paying off and his unwavering faith that it would behoove him in the long run to never give up on it, tonight I’m going to share one of his “pep texts” with you — uncensored.
I cannot definitively say whether these are my former trainer’s words, or words that he passed along, but they ring true, no matter who you are.
Caution: Adult language ahead.
“Defeatist!
Most people will actually beat themselves, long before they are truly beaten.
There is no fair!
There is no level playing field.
Mentality will be your best shot at overcoming any shortcomings.
The dude/chick who wants to win or succeed, as bad as they want to fucking breathe, is extremely dangerous.
The motherfucker who is willing to do everything that everyone else is NOT willing to do is dangerous.
None of this is of the body.
It is all of the mind.
You can view a setback as a tiny ant hill or a 10-foot wall covered in razor wire.
This is entirely based on your point of view.
It’s not always the smartest, biggest, strongest, baddest who win.
It’s the one who kept going when everyone else chose to bitch out.
The person who can weather the shit storm and press forward, in my opinion, is the biggest badass and most worthy of respect.”
Dax, I hope you’re rolling in it — $50,000 deep and counting — wherever you are.
You fucking deserve it.
More tomorrow,
-A
